Soltvadkert and Surroundings – The Wine Region in Brief

The Soltvadkert–Kiskőrös area is unique among Hungarian wine regions: located on the sandy plains of the Great Hungarian Plain, it is part of the Kunság wine region, with family wineries operating here for generations. Local winemakers play an important role in producing high-quality wines in the region, not just quantity.

Below, we introduce seven wineries, highlighting their main features where possible.

1. Frittmann Winery

  • Family-run winery in Soltvadkert, 60 ha of own vineyards + 40–50 ha in cooperation.
  • In 2007, János Frittmann won the “Winemaker of the Year” award, marking a breakthrough for the region.
  • Focus: fruity white wines (Ezerjó, Cserszegi fűszeres, Irsai Olivér), also rosé, red wines, and sparkling wine.
  • Wine tasting and cellar tours available.

2. Font Winery

  • Multi-generational family business, ~38 ha own vineyard.
  • Focus: Hungarian grape varieties (Ezerjó, Kövidinka, Irsai Olivér, Cserszegi fűszeres) using modern reductive techniques.
  • Participates in local heritage programs.

3. Galántai Family Winery

  • Located in Soltvadkert (Arany János St. 27).
  • Regularly achieves excellent results at local wine competitions.

4. Ritter Winery

  • Soltvadkert (Orczy St. 5).
  • Winemaker: Balázs Ritter, trained in viticulture and oenology, adopts new technologies for quality.

5. Galambos Wine House

  • Family has been producing wine for three generations (~50 ha).
  • Cellar hosts the city wine competition – a central point for locals and visitors.

6. Lantos Winery

  • Soltvadkert (Szent István St. 57), ~20 ha.
  • Offers traditional Hungarian varieties (Cserszegi fűszeres, Kövidinka, Ezerjó, Kadarka) and international varieties (Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon/Franc), including sparkling wines.

7. Szentpéteri Winery

  • Near Kiskőrös, awarded “best sparkling wine” at the 42nd National Wine Competition.
  • Their Chardonnay sparkling wine ranked among the top 10 worldwide; present in the premium sparkling segment.
